My piece is entitled Nightmare and is about being uneasy and feeling as though something is constantly watching you. I chose this theme because after I have a nightmare, I often feel anxious and as though I’m not alone. I used graphite and focused on shading well and getting the desired expression on the figure. For my drawing, I kept it black and white to create more contrast and to elaborate on the feeling of anxiety. When anxious, a lot of people tend to turn pale, so I wanted my subject's face to also look quite pale in contrast to accentuate her fear. I thought keeping it black and white would also help depict the horror theme. I also used asymmetrical balance in my drawing by placing the girl in my picture in the lower portion of the picture and placing the creature in the upper portion. This was to create the feeling that the creature was peering over the girl and make the situation tenser.
This still-life is called Books and Flowers. This drawing was just focused on accuracy. I chose the books and vase because I liked the different the textures and how the light reflected off the stones in the vase. I used graphite to create my drawing and mainly focused on shading to create a wide range of value. I also tried to make different textures with the more glossy stones and the rougher edges on the book.

This piece is entitled Drowning and is about my fear of getting lost at sea. The woman has no face to represent how she can't be seen in the water. The boat is the possibility that she could be saved while the skulls are all the people who've haven't been lost. I used a black pen to make the drawing. I tried to have emphasis on the girl since she is in the center of just white space. There is also contrast between the dark sky and the water. The large amount of space gives the feeling that the girl is isolated.
This piece is entitled Angler since it is a depiction of an angler fish. I used scratchboard for the piece. I went semi-realistic for the piece since I wanted to exaggerate the features of the fish. The fish is often thought of as scary so I made it teeth large and put it about to eat a small fish to make it seem threatening or creepy.

This piece is about how if you live life solely based on materialistic values, it can often lead to one feeling unfulfilled and unhappy in life. I did it in a triptych style that is based off of Alphonse Mucha. The first panel represents how kids at a young age begin to idealize objects. The second image is about how when we're older we desire money. In the third there is an adult looking at a map and the man is lost and unfulfilled.
